They say that you are never a prophet in your home town, I say it can take a while. Our little indie action flick DEADEN which was shot in Montreal with a story set in Montreal, is finally available to buy in fucking Montreal, behind the clock in terms of some of the rest of the world which has been distributing it since 2007 or so. There it is (along with SV Bell’s Crawler) at Archambault downtown, as it should be. Props to SV Bell and Christian Viel 4 making it happen. PS: Deaden is also available on Netflix for my US pals.

It took long (over 3 years) but our little indie that could DEADEN will finally hit the streets in its home town of Montreal, Quebec (the film was shot in Montreal and set in Montreal) next week in participating Archambault retailers and Metro Video through the Black Flag label. The film is rated 16+ for strong violence, the lowest rating the film ever got, gotta love Quebec. DEADEN was written and co produced by myself; I also star in the flick. It was directed, produced and edited by Christian Viel. It co stars: Deke Richards, Anna Jaeger and Neil Napier. Here is the synopsis:

After his vicious crew discovers his secret life as an undercover cop, biker Rane (John Fallon) is forced to witness the brutal murder of his pregnant wife before the gang puts an arrow through his head and leaves him for dead. There’s only problem for the murderous biker gang: Rane miraculously wakes up in a hospital bed. Armed with firepower and loaded up on painkillers, the heartbroken yet reinvigorated madman heads out on a merciless vengeance quest.

After years of being “too much” for the UK market, our  low budget vigilante flick DEADEN will finally gun down the UK DVD Shelves come March 22nd, 2010 courtesy of AUK Limited. And the better news is that England’s Censorship board (BBFC) classified it as 18+ with strong cautions and cut NOTHING out of the film. Good shite! DEADEN was written and co produced by myself; I also star in the flick. It was directed, produced and edited by Christian Viel. Horace the”"testicle eating” dog co stars.

The SITGES FILM FESTIVAL just spit out their full film program and the two projects that I have there this year just got their screening dates.

The short  OLD NUMBER 7 which I co wrote, co produced and acted in will be screening on OCTOBER 10 in competition. OLD NUMBER 7 is an ode to giallos of old. It was directed/written by Gonzalo Lopez (EMBRION) and it stars Saida Lamas and Sergio Bernal.

And the action/sci fi/comedy/smut fest RECON 2023 will be whooping skulls on OCTOBER 11 as part of the MIDNIGHT EXTREME section. I co wrote RECON 2023 (with director Christian Viel) and I act in it. The film stars Andy Bradsaw, Deke Richards and Valerie Wiseman.

Unless the good Lord plays against me, I am slated once again to attend the SITGES FILM FESTIVAL this year, to support both screenings and of course bring back some horror goods to the site. If you’re attending the Fest, come say hello and lets have a beer!

August 22nd, 2009 admin No comments

dvd_site_deaden1Christian Viel’s and I vigilante action flick DEADEN will finally be put out in the UK via AUK LIMITED and you can see the UK TRAILER HERE and the UK DVD sleeve on your left. Good little trailer, am not crazy about the sound design and it feels like it needs more work, but I like its vibe.

It should be said that DEADEN was the most fun I ever had doing a movie PERIOD. Everything about that show good and bad made it a mucho memorable experience for me. And I’ve been chasing the DEADEN dragon even since. : ) If you haven’t tapped DEADEN yet, you can get the the MAINSTREAM REGION 1 DVD HERE or get the LIMITED UNCUT EDITION DVD HERE.

Thoughts; RECON 2023 Fantasia screening

So, just got back from the Fantasia screening of RECON 2023, Andy Bradshaw (who was prod designer on the film and played Sharp in it) and I presented the film to a fairly packed room (I would say 2 thirds of the seats were filled).

meandyfant1I wound up staying for the whole thing – the audience seemed to get it, they laughed at the right places (Deke as Doctor Scott was a hit again) and it looked like they enjoyed it for the most part. All good. Andy and I stayed afterwards and took questions from the audience. Went smooth as silk.

Sadly director Christian Viel couldn’t be with us being that he had other matters to tend to, but all in all, it went fine. I still think the flick should’ve been screened as a midnight show – its just that kind of movie to me – but what can ya do.  I’d like to thank everybody that showed up to give the flick a shot. Hope yall dug it! Now I’m gonna crack open a beer and just chill the fuck out… am feeling lazy and somewhat anti-social today…

RECON 2023 Fantasia screening date/time

Christian Viel’s RECON 2023 will screen at this year’s FANTASIA FILM FESTIVAL. I wrote the script with Viel and I act in it.  Here are the details:

Screening Times: July 11th, 2009 – 12:30 pm – Screening Room: J.A. De Seve

Here’s the FANTASIA PROGRAM description:

For 23 years now, Earth has been at war with the Mahars, an alien species set on annihilating the human race forever. In hopes of bringing this interstellar conflict to an end, Lt. Sharp and a small team of soldiers are sent to the planet Gauda Prime to carry out a secret mission. There, in the middle of a barren desert, lies the Mahars ultimate weapon, capable of closing the books on human history permanently. With the help of seductive female cyborgs, Sharp and his team will have to face Gauda Prime’s strange and menacing wildlife, as well as an extremely disfigured mercenary by the name of Face, henchman for Machiavellian conspirators who wish nothing more than to see our planet destroyed.

Fantasia audiences who have followed the RECON series throughout the years won’t want to miss this new episode for the world. Director Christian Viel reunites with his usual crew, including John Arrow in the Head Fallon, who wrote the script and plays the vicious cyber-merc onscreen. He also reconnects with his audience by giving them exactly what they want action sequences choreographed by a local genre specialist, one of which is rather stunning in its direct reference to Coppola’s APOCALYPSE NOW. In Quebec, Christian Viel is definitely an example for independent filmmakers to follow. Without government financing, he still manages to produce science fiction films as entertaining as their Hollywood counterparts, and which have found success abroad. Watching his new film, one can’t help but wonder what Viel could do with a TRANSFORMERS-caliber budget, seeing how RECON 2023: THE GAUDA PRIME CONSPIRACY overflows with talent!
